Mike,

I like the articles in your latest newsletter. Particularly "Its all about the Color."

What I find interesting is that you are now "into" the desaturated and digital look. When I took your class about a year ago I distinctly remember the first things you did to any image was, "Well first I crank up the saturation and bring up the black point to get those really rich shadows..."

I thought then that that was a rather formulaic way of processing images but I figured it was part of the commercial world.

Now it makes sense to me that you were emulating what you knew. Fuji Velveeta!

I too have been doing a bit of experimentation with desaturation to some extent. I really like the look and I think it is a bit of a differentiator in a world of "over-punchy" work.

Ben -

Great to hear from you. Yup, I have since stopped cranking contrast up radically as my sense of color and tastes have changed. I now like the digital look a lot more and I suspect a lot of this is due to the incredible prints I have produced on my Epson printers. That and my comfort level with Adobe Lightroom has greatly increased in the last year.

Thanks for the note!

Cheers, Michael Clark
